IRSE Logbook Requirements

You only need to use to use 8 sections of the IRSE “Green Logbook” for your licence; the others which are available from the IRSE are for CPD for IRSE members and Engineering Council registration. The following sections of the logbook are mandated by the IRSE for Licence holders. To view the logbook section guides and forms, just click on the links below.  You may already be in possession of a logbook which includes sections such as “Short and long term career objectives” etc; you can continue to maintain your existing logbook but need to ensure that the 8 sections listed below are included.

You are advised to read the guidance notes and complete the forms accordingly.

1) Licence Details

You should enter a verified record of the competence assessments successfully completed. In this section you should also include a record of any system or equipment specific assessments which could support the initial application or renewals of a licence. Licence Detail Form and the Equipment Specific Form.

2) Complaints

The complaints page must be retained in your logbook; it is a requirement that if there have been no complaints then a “nil return” is entered and signed annually by your line manager. You should enter any details of complaints including a “nil return” on the Complaints Form.

3) Company Documents

The guidance lists what should go in this section. This section can be used to hold any additional documents required by your employer such as:

- Safety Discussion Record

- Record of Authority to Work Certificates

- Record of Instructions Received

4) Personal Documents

This section of logbook can be used to hold your own documents and certificates such as:

- Education certificates

- Training Course Certificates

- Current CV

By keeping this record up to date you can provide the Assessing Agent’s competence assessor with evidence that you are maintaining your skills and competence in licensable work, and use the record to support any application you make for a licence or the renewal of a licence.

7) Educational Development
