Assessment of an applicant for a licence
is a two-stage process. Firstly
there is a workplace assessment, followed by an independent assessment by a
competence assessor. This page deals
with the independent assessment. The
Independent Assessment by a Competence Assessor This assessment is carried out by a
competence assessor from an Assessing Agency, after the workplace assessment
has been completed. Assessing Agencies,
and their assessors, are appointed by the IRSE to make recommendation whether
the applicant should be awarded a licence. Competence Assessors are working
on behalf of the IRSE when carrying out this role. Assessing Agent Managers are responsible
for assigning competence assessors to review the workplace assessment of
licence applicants. Many of the people who perform the
independent assessment also perform workplace assessments, but of course the
person who performs the workplace assessment for a particular applicant
cannot then be the same person to carry out the independent assessment. The competence assessor reviews: ·
your log book; ·
the completed Competence Assessment Checklist on which
the workplace assessor has recorded their comments and observations regarding
your competence; The competence assessor will also
interview you. In short, the role
of the competence assessor is to check that the workplace assessment has been
carried out to the required standard and by virtue of a professional discussion
make a recommendation regarding your application for a licence. On successful completion, provided
internal verification by the assessing agent and validation by the IRSE are
satisfactory, then a Licence will be issued by the IRSE within a few weeks
(see step 7 in the diagram above). |
